Chikhaldara is one of the famous hill stations in Maharashtra. Chikhaldara hill station is located in the Amravati district of Vidarbha region in Maharashtra state. Chikhaldara is situated at an altitude of 1,118 meters above from sea level. Chikhaldara hill station is the only coffee growing area in the India state of Maharashtra. One can buy fresh coffee beans at most reasonable price from Chikhaldara. In the epic battle between Bheema & Keechaka (In the epic of Mahabharata) villainous Keechaka was killed by Bheema in herculean bout and threw him into the valley. Thus this place is known as Keechakdara and its corruption name is Chikhaldara. Chikhaldara is covered with thick forest and it's blessed with nature's flora and fauna. Its a must visit place for nature and animal lovers. Melghat Tiger Reserve which has more than 100 Tigers is just few miles away from Chikhaldara hill station. Melghat Tiger Reserve Park is very famous park as it is the only place to house Indian Tigers in Maharashtra state. The whole area is rich with flora and fauna. The main fauna can be found here Indian Tigers, Indian Leopards, Sambar, Barking Deer, Langur, Flying Squirrel, Indian Jackal, Rhesus Monkey, Gaur, Mouse Deer, Python and etc. Botanical Survey of India done study on the flora in Melghat and found 772 different species in the region and found that few of them are rare.

Best time to visit Chikhaldara hill station is October to February But if you want to see thick green forest and waterfalls with full of waters then one can visit in July to September. Try to avoid in Summer as temperature goes up to 35'c to 42'c.
